Concept

The concept for The Promised Land Country Village came about as the result of witnessing a need for a completely new direction in long term care in many areas, several of which are described below.

Private Home Environment for Residents and Visitors

Hospital-like environments, housing 60 - 200+ residents, with small, semi-private rooms containing only one chair for visitors do not resemble a home, nor are very inviting for family members or friends to visit or to stay long, if they do visit.

  • The Promised Land Country Village has designed a group of homes containing twelve (12) private fully equipped apartments, ranging in size from studio up to 2 bedrooms, for residents who need assistance, memory or skilled nursing care.   There will also be several guest suites for short term stay residents.  Each home will contain a secure outdoor courtyard, a screened porch overlooking a lake, two living areas, a large dining area and an open kitchen where meals may be prepared.   Other single family homes and apartments will be available for those able to live independently, who will be offered services such as transportation, dining, and housekeeping.

 Country Setting

The majority of nursing homes are situated within the city limits of a community, surrounded by other businesses.

  • The Promised Land Country Village will be built surrounding a body of water.  There will be a walking trail surrounding the lake that will connect all the homes and businesses.  The entire village will be situated in the midst of a large acreage of undeveloped property in a rural setting, with walking trails around the perimeter of the property.  The surrounding countryside is planned to include ponds, lakes, creeks, and/or a river.

Outdoor Areas

Secure outdoor areas for residents to enjoy are generally lacking in most nursing homes.  For many residents, due to cognitive loss and physical limitations, it is generally not thought to be safe to allow residents to go outside to an unsecured area without supervision.  This results in many residents rarely getting sunshine or fresh air, which is believed to contribute to the high rate of depression  and increased health issues in nursing homes.

  • The Promised Land Country Village is dedicated to designing secure, ADA accessible outdoor areas and finding a means through staffing, volunteers, and/or design methods, to ensure residents are able to go outdoors on a regular basis or as often as they would like, while remaining safe and secure.

On-Site Activities to Include Members of Surrounding Communities

Due to the high level of care necessary for the majority of nursing home residents, generally only a small percentage of residents, consisting of higher functioning individuals, are taken on outing activities away from the facility.   On-site activities are usually limited in scope and are not generally designed to entice outside visitors to participate in with the residents.

  • The Promised Land Country Village, with its on-site businesses open to the public, such as a gift/artisan shop, general store, gym, performing arts/movie theater, restaurant, beauty salon and spa, chapel, coffee shop, etc., not to mention nature trails and picnic areas, will offer residents and family members a multitude of activities to enjoy and participate in along with other members of the surrounding communities.   Guest speakers and performing artists will be invited to come and educate and/or entertain the residents as well as the general public.  By inviting the public to enjoy social and/or recreational activities on site,  the residents are afforded the opportunity to continue to socialize with members of the community, preventing the isolation commonly associated with losing the ability to live independently.

Need for Alternative Sources of Funding

As the Baby Boomer generation ages, the population of seniors in America will rise dramatically.  Currently, the Federal Medicare and State Medicaid programs fund the majority of elderly healthcare costs.

  • The Promised Land Country Village seeks to find an alternative method to assist with funding expensive long term care through philanthropic means.  We believe that people will be inspired to donate to the organization to assist with necessary funding and that consumers will be enticed to shop and seek entertainment/recreational activities on site due to the fact that a portion of the proceeds will be donated back to the community.

Need for Staff Retainage to Promote Quality of Care

Turnover in the long term care industry for nurses and nurse assistants is extremely high.  Dissastifaction is prevalent as caregivers are not afforded the opportunity to give the desired time and attention to each resident that they would like, due to the pressures of expediency for the purpose of profit-making for the corporations.  Staff are often seen as expendable when it comes down to the bottom line dollar.

  •  The Promised Land Country Village is as equally concerned about providing a loving, caring, and rewarding work environment for our staff as it is about providing a loving, caring and rewarding living environment for our residents.  Satisfied staff equals long term staff, which will result in higher quality of care for our residents.  We are dedicated to continually seek ways to reward and show appreciation for all of our hard working staff.

Residents Need to Have Purpose in Life

It has been said that the most important thing a person needs in life is to have a purpose.  Many times when a person loses their independence, they may also lose their purpose in life.  This loss of purpose contributes to their decline in health.

  • The Promised Land Country Village seeks to help residents discover an activity or a purpose within their physical and cognitive abilities that they can look forward to each day, whether it be watering plants, feeding pets, planning meals, or greeting guests.  Knowing that they still have a purpose in life is expected to result in an improvement of mental, physical, and emotional health.

Staff  Need to Have a Purpose, Too!

Many people take a job or stay in a career that does not necessarily utilize their strengths, talents and abilities to the fullest extent, and/or may not be the true desire of their heart.  They may not realize that there is something at which they truly excel and would be extremely satisfied doing with their lives.

  •  The Promised Land Country Village believes that each and every individual has specific gifts and talents they were created with in order to fulfill a specific purpose in life, and desires to assist and encourage individuals to seek out that purpose and follow it, in order to become truly satisfied and fulfilled in their lives.

Need for Good Stewardship of the Environment

As our society continues to build more buildings, roads and parking lots, we lose more and more of our natural areas, and those that do remain are jeopardized by mankind's lack of attention to proper land management techniques to sustain our natural environment.

  • The Promised Land Country Village is in partnership with Environmental Stewardship, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, conserving, restoring, and enhancing the earth's natural resources, to assist with the design and construction methods of this community and its surrounding natural areas.

If you feel that The Promised Land Country Village is a worthy cause, we ask you to please consider donating funds, materials or services, with a one-time or monthly donation, in order to complete the development of this community; and for the future, to assist with the cost of providing quality health care and a new way of life for our senior population and healthcare workers.

The Promised Land Country Village is a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt pending corporation, organized in July 2006.
